This April, HBPW completed the connection between the Holland Energy Park power plant and the 138,000-volt (138kV) transmission loop that carries high-voltage electricity around our community. The 138kV loop extends 26.4 miles and supplies energy to an additional 600 miles of lower-voltage distribution lines throughout the city of Holland, and Holland, Park, Laketown, and Fillmore townships.

Unlike water that can be stored, energy needs to be made, moved, and delivered at the time of usage. Transformers at each generation source increase the voltage of electricity before it enters our transmission loop, because higher voltage can travel longer distances without losing as much power. Then, when the energy reaches a substation, the voltage is reduced before it is distributed to the homes and businesses. Our system has nine substations which provide power to 28,199 customers.
