Meet Our Board

Tim Hemingway, Board President

Tim is a long-time resident of the Holland area, but has also lived in Brazil, California, and Texas. Tim worked for SAF Holland for 31 years in various roles including General Manager of Texas Operations, Vice President International, President of Holland USA and President of Global Aftermarket Business for SAF Holland. Tim was recently on the Board of Directors for TMD Friction, Luxembourg and volunteers with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holland.

Diane Haworth, Board Vice President

A Holland resident since 1995, Diane is currently the Sustainability Marketing Manager at NSF International in Ann Arbor, MI. She has also worked for Haworth, Inc., where she served as Sustainability Manager. Prior to that role, she was a Product Manager and Team Leader for Haworth’s China Project during a year’s residence in Shanghai. Diane is active in the Holland Community Sustainability Committee and Grand Valley Artists, a fine arts association in Grand Rapids.

Paul Elzinga, Board Member

Paul Elzinga, P.E., is a long-time resident of the Holland area. Through his extensive work at Elzinga & Volkers, Inc., Emeritus, and Paul Elzinga Consulting, PC, Paul is recognized throughout Western Michigan for his construction expertise on unique and challenging projects including the Holland Community Hospital and the City of Holland snowmelt project. Paul volunteers with numerous groups including the United Way, Holland Airport Advisory Committee, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holland.

In addition to the above, Paul is a Registered Professional Engineer. He presently serves on the Construction Management Advisory Board at MTU and the Communication Advisory Board at FSU. His construction experience includes power, water treatment, wastewater treatment plants, and major Hope College Facilities. He was one of the four founding registered professionals of GMB Architects/Engineers. Other not-for-profit organization service includes serving as president of the Resthaven Care Community Board of Directors, and Director of the Holland Downtown Development Authority as well as being a volunteer pilot for Wings of Mercy.

Phil Miller, Board Member

A Holland native, Phil began mowing lawns at Howard Miller at age 10. In 2008, he retired from his position as the company’s CEO. In addition to his work at Howard Miller, Phil has served on boards at Hope College, Bethany Christian Services and ODL, Inc. He and his wife also coordinate Christmas presents for 475 foster children each year.

James Storey, Board Member

Now in his eighth year of service on the Board of the Holland BPW, Jim Storey is a lifelong Michigan resident. He represents Michigan public utilities on the American Public Power Association’s Policy Makers Council.

Storey is an elected Commissioner representing Holland and Fillmore, Heath and Overisel townships on the seven-member Allegan County Board of Commissioners. He is a self-employed consultant whose StoreyLine Connections has managed successful ballot question campaigns and those of candidates. A former Liquor Control Commissioner for the State of Michigan, StoreyLine also assists business in the liquor licensing process.

In addition to his Holland BPW Board Member duties, Storey also serves on the West Michigan Airport Authority, the Macatawa Area Coordinating Committee’s policy council, the Oversight Policy Board of the agency that distributes regional substance abuse prevention and treatment funds, and a number of other boards.

He and his wife Diane have resided in Holland since 1997 and are the parents of four grown children.

Bob Shilander, Ex Officio Board Member

Bob Shilander and his family have lived in Park Township for 15 years—moving to Holland on three different occasions and returning upon retirement in 2011.

He has spent 44 years in the design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and de-commissioning of electrical generation facilities of various fuel (coal, gas, oil, nuclear) and renewable (wood, refuse, solar, wind, and geothermal) design types. He has held corporate management positions ranging from engineering, construction management, supervision, and owner on power projects in the United States and overseas.


He stays active in the power industry and with Ferris State University (graduating in Construction Management in 1969) in serving on the Advisory Board for the School of Engineering & Built Environment and ICEE Accreditation Team Member. Bob has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus for 25 years and an active (and founding) member at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. After retirement, giving back, through volunteerism has been Job One throughout the West Michigan Community.
