Engineered for Improvement

Joel Davenport leads the WRF through improvement projects.

Joel Davenport’s passion for utilities began after working for a civil engineering firm where he helped design and construct water and wastewater utility projects. As his interest grew, he started looking for opportunities to become further involved in the operation, maintenance and administration of public utilities. Joel found a position to do just that with Holland Board of Public Works.

Joel started with BPW as a Planning Engineer in the Business Services Department, before transitioning into the role of Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Superintendent five years ago. Since then, Joel has worked hard to lead the WRF through some huge improvement projects, both optimizing the way the plant treats wastewater and saving big on energy costs.

“I love working for a company that is consistently trying to improve the services it provides,” Joel said. “BPW is forward thinking, which puts them a step ahead of many of the other utilities that I worked with as a consulting engineer.”

Joel went to Michigan State University where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He also holds a professional engineering license through the State of Michigan.
