Celebrating Innovation

Holland City Fiber Success and Progress

On August 2, 2022, Holland voters approved a millage that enabled the Holland Board of Public Works (HBPW) to expand its fiber network. HBPW has offered fiber for over 30 years, but the millage allows us to expand the community-owned high-speed internet network to make it available to all in the City of Holland who want to use it. Today, more than half of Holland has access to affordable, local, and high-speed fiber internet, and the feedback from users tells us that it’s an added value to the community.

What Customers Are Saying

A recent customer satisfaction survey reveals that 96% of Holland City Fiber customers are satisfied with their service reliability, and 95% would recommend the service to a friend. These numbers reflect not just a successful infrastructure project, but a community-driven initiative that delivers on its promises.

The survey results highlight the impact of Holland City Fiber on everyday life. HBPW understands that connectivity is no longer optional. In an era where internet reliability is essential for work, education, healthcare, and entertainment, 96% satisfaction with service reliability is a measure HBPW is proud to represent. Residents with fiber services experience few outages, fast speeds, and consistent connections, helping Holland residents and businesses flourish.

The Service

Holland City Fiber offers symmetrical internet speeds, meaning upload and download speeds are the same. HBPW Fiber is offered at two tiers, 2,000 Mbps and 10,000 Mbps, priced competitively at $45/month and $120/month respectively. In 2025, Speedtest.net by Ookla calculated the median internet speed in the U.S. as 154.48 Mbps download and 8.88 Mbps uploads. Holland’s fiber network is not only faster, but also the most affordable fiber connection for city residents.

A Community-Owned Choice for Fiber Internet

HBPW’s approach also emphasizes consumer choice. Once the infrastructure is fully built and operational, other internet service providers have the opportunity to use the same network. This forward-thinking strategy can promote competition, innovation, and better internet service for everyone.

The success of Holland City Fiber is a testament to what can happen when community input and long-term vision guide innovative public infrastructure. Holland residents made this possible by voting for the millage, and HBPW has delivered a service that meets the expectations and needs of the entire community.

With a projected completion of construction of the passings network in the summer of 2026, Holland City Fiber will continue to expand throughout the rest of the city, making essential, efficient, reliable, and local internet services available to more Holland residents.
