Letter from Dave Koster

As a public utility, everything we do is an investment in the community – continuously improving our city and townships. We don’t answer to shareholders; we serve you. So, we lead with the best interests of our customers in mind. This Annual Report focuses on improvements in operations and investments in our community that we accomplished over the 2019 fiscal year which spanned July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019.

Holland Board of Public Works had a strong and steady 2019. We focused on maintenance and upgrades to our existing infrastructure. Maintaining our systems with pride results in reliability and cost control of our services. In this report, you will learn about ways we keep our system functioning and reliable.

Speaking of reliability, Holland Board of Public Works once again earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)® designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. It is a great honor to be recognized as among the ‘best of the best’ on a national level. Holland Board of Public Works received a perfect score on the RP3 application and received a Diamond rating, which is the highest of three levels.

All that Holland Board of Public Works accomplishes is a testament to our team. Our employees are some of the most dedicated community stewards that I know. Our workforce extends to a valuable internship program, which you can learn about in this report.

Holland Board of Public Works strives to be efficient in ways that bolster fiscal and environmental responsibility. The Community Energy Plan sets forth common goals we share with the City of Holland that will make our community a national leader in energy security, affordability, sustainability and efficiency. Holland Energy Park has made significant strides in emission reductions. We are also excited to share about two programs piloted this past year: Energy Saving Trees and Strategic Energy Management.

Holland Board of Public Works is proud to serve the community of Holland. We appreciate your voice and look forward to continuing to grow with you.

Kind regards,

Dave Koster
